Chester the Jester Rendered Concept

This was a fully rendered drawing of an organic character for my Concept Art and Color Theory course. This was a character I’ve been wanting to create visually for a while, and this class gave me that opportunity. Now for his story. He’s a jester whose carnival mysteriously burnt down. During the ensuing chaos, no one thought to help him get out too. Now, he roams his carnival, burnt and scarred, performing for an empty tent, hoping one day, someone will be foolish enough to visit him.

While creating this render, the biggest challenge was figuring out the lighting. I knew that I wanted it coming from an angle but from which one. I eventually settled on the upper left so the side of him that is melted and burnt, could be shrouded in darkness. This character is going to be carried over into a full 3D model and textured. For what that ended up looking like, check here.
